Recent Rhodes University Phd graduate, Nqobile Msomi, conducted a Case Study of GADRA’s Community-Engaged Praxis for Educational transformation. She highlighted that GADRA Education “positions itself at the centre of a dense network of education institutions in Makhanda”, these include Rhodes University and many other local education stakeholders. She argued that GADRA’s methods and practices are aligned with African-centred community psychology. The organisation builds bridges to enable inclusive access and bonds of solidarity to foster collective action. Unsurprisingly, the organisation prioritises partnerships and other collaborative undertakings as key strategies.
The narrative of the organisational members’ Msomi interviewed, all of whom had participated in or implemented GADRA’s programmes, revealed the impacts of the educational organisation on the subjectivities of youth in Makhanda in engendering hope and driving educational change in the city.
